ABOUT THE ONLINE COUNSELLOR
Hi, and welcome to theonlinecounsellor.com with free video chat available.
I’m an integrative, solutions-focused psychotherapist with verified training to work with people online. That means I draw on different therapy methods with a focus on your outcome, enabling you to change something that’s been worrying you, so that you can move forward with your life.
If you’ve reached here, you probably want to look at the different sections to see whether this feels right for you, to find out more about how this works, and who I am.
Online counselling/psychotherapy can be really helpful for receiving support for a wide range of difficulties. I work with anxiety, including phobias, fears, depression, relationships, anger and self-esteem, to name just a few. I also help people with more physically-orientated problems, such as IBS, weight issues, and pain management over Skype.
Whatever your reasons are for choosing online counselling or therapy, there are different ways that we can work confidentially and securely together, such as on Skype, by secure email, or internet text messaging. We can even agree to do some of each: you might feel more comfortable with a particular medium, such as writing, or prefer the visual method of counselling on Skype. You can read about these in the 'how' section.
Having therapy online has the benefit of being able to book an appointment in the near future without having to wait up to several weeks, which can often be the case with face-to-face counselling.
The most important thing to remember when browsing for online counsellors/psychotherapists is to check they are registered with one of the main counselling and psychotherapy bodies. In the UK, these are the Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and the UK Council for Psychotherapy, UKCP.
Therapists with additional training to work on the internet usually belong to ACTO, the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online.
Note: Online therapy is not suitable if you have an enduring mental illness or are experiencing extreme distress.
