HYPNOTHERAPY

Contemporary psychotherapists view the internal (neurological) connections we make between our conscious and unconscious mind, as those which create change in us, and these changes happen in a supportive and non-judgemental environment.

Clinical hypnotherapy is a specialist area, and skilled practitioners will make use of trance and metaphor to allow their clients to integrate new ideas and experiences at a deeper level. It is particularly effective for alleviating traumas and phobias.

The stresses of modern life can affect our bodies in physical ways, such as poor sleep patterns, high blood pressure, allergies, migraine and irritable bowel syndrome, to name but a few. Hypnotherapy has proved to be beneficial in all of these ailments, and many more, including relief in deep-seated pain, anxiety and depression.

WHAT IS HYPNOSIS OR TRANCE?

Hypnosis has a long history, and the technique often involves deep relaxation, but not always. Old myths have given way to scientifically sound applications in medicine, sports and education. More and more research is being carried out which continues to validate its effectiveness in many physical and psychological areas.

Hypnosis used in therapy stimulates the body’s self-healing system via a slightly altered state of awareness, and when this is carried out with the help of a trained professional, it is known as hypnotherapy.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Our minds work on two different levels; the conscious and the unconscious.

When we are awake, our conscious minds are always busy making decisions, thinking, and planning our next step. In the relaxed trance state of hypnosis, we can communicate directly with the unconscious mind, and so bring effective relief to many areas of human suffering.

CAN IT WORK VIA SKYPE?

Yes it can.  It also works very well over the 'phone!

CAN ANYONE BE HYPNOTISED?

Everyone has the ability to go into a hypnotic trance. It isn’t something that is done to you, but something that you learn to do yourself.  The therapist is like a piano teacher – they can demonstrate, but you do the playing!

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I’M HYPNOTISED?

Most people have had the experience of daydreaming, where they are not so aware of outside surroundings. Most of us have also driven on ‘auto-pilot’, where we realise that we’ve no idea how we arrived at our destination!

Some people feel lightness; others feel relaxed and lethargic. You will find it a natural and enjoyable experience. One thing that people do notice is a change in their daily behaviours.

IS HYPNOSIS SAFE?

Hypnosis is completely safe.

People are sometimes concerned that they will ‘lose control’.  No matter how deeply into hypnosis you may go (and everyone experiences different levels), you are not asleep, and you cannot be made to say or do anything that you don’t want to.

You are fully able to talk if you wish, and you are aware and in control at every moment. Most people’s misconception about loss of control stems from stage acts, where ‘permission’ is already given to the hypnotist.

Clinical hypnotherapy is ethical, and is always carried out with the permission and best interests of the client in mind.
